Honesty and Peace

I did something few do. I chose honesty in a situation where most would stew, gossip with others, and engage in what is known in psychology circles as ‘passive aggressive’ behaviour.

What did I do? I broke up with my friend, and I told her. Yes, I could have just pretended I didn’t see her texts. I could have just waited until time and the art of ignoring did the talking for me, but that felt wrong. It also felt cowardice.

If this were a boyfriend, I would have ‘the talk’. So why should our girlfriends deserve any less respect? What is it about sleeping with someone that elevates the relationship? There is just as much, if not more, intimacy between good friends.

Speaking my truth and sharing with honesty wasn’t easy. No one likes conflict. BUT – the thought of conflict saps our energy way more than facing the conflict head on does.

The energy that comes from stewing instead of acting also causes dis-ease in our bodies.

Once I had let her know my truth, I could do the work to sever the energetic ties I had with this person. The energy of peace has been expanding ever since. This was a relationship where one side (moi) was expending much more energy than I was receiving. I had tried to rectify this in the past by speaking with this person. Things weren’t changing so it was time to honour the self and move on.

Our world needs more honesty. Not the kind of honesty shared behind our computer screens when we spew negativity we would never spew face to face. Not the kind of honesty that is shared behind the safety of our vehicles when we engage in road rage activities.

It’s the kind of honesty we ponder, meditate on and share from a place of love – for self and other. Sharing our truth with love takes great courage and bestows great peace. It’s the kind of peace that comes from knowing the self and acting from that sacred place.

I’m all about solutions. Talking about a problem doesn’t fix anything. It’s part of the process perhaps; part of how we make sense of things. However, it doesn’t translate into change.

This is one way to put this in to practice. Visit https://storyu.live and watch the video. Leave your name and email and watch the next short video. Sit with the concept. If you want to take it further and find a way to practice what’s there, that’s available too.
